Yeah. Finally. Apparently that did it. I just uploaded two files that had been problems and they worked. I'm going to do a bunch more of that to be sure but I bet that's it.

Incidentally, that's what I suggested with my first call to Sonic. I didn't say the right thing but it was the same idea. I said I think I might have exceeded my limit. The tech guy I talked to looked at another limit for sure like how many MGs I am allotted and said no, that's not it.

I've got all my sites with Sonic at a much greater cost than other ways of hosting them and that's because I can get through to people there and deal with problems. I've been having this problem for a week. I spent a lot of time dealing with it and trying to convince tech support that our tests show it's not my computer's fault. This morning before I read your email I got an email from tech support that said:

I was getting ready to call the office and say we'd run into a problem that your tech support can't find or deal with and am going to have to get another ISP.

So thanks very much for sticking with this and solving the problem.

Maybe I should understand better what the limit is you raised and if I can see it and maybe everyone in tech support there should get a note about this so if it happens to anyone else they'll know what to do. Maybe you're already doing that.

All's well etc. I guess all I need to remember if this happens in the future is to let you guys know I've hit the hard quoata set on the file system and the quota should be increased to correspond to the amount allowed with your hosting services.

1-16-14 update

I tried what Sonic support suggested with a test file they sent and it didn't work. Sent a file I'd never sent before and got a message asking if I want to overwrite the existing one with 0 btyes. I hit yes so now it's joined some of the other 0 btye files in the dchad folder. Doesn't matter where in the dchad folder - root or anywhere in any of the website folders.

I can't see how to see this as anything other than a problem on the Sonic end, maybe with my dchad folder or with a server or something at Sonic. How many people do I have to get to duplicate this problem from other computers in different parts of the world to convince Sonic that the problem isn't in my computer? We've used three different ftp programs and two computers from here in Bali and then there's Peter and Chris in Tennessee and Chicago sending files made on their computers and we are all having this problem.

From Chris today in Chicago: I am experiencing the same issue, 0byte sized files when uploading to any directories within Public_html. I tried several files types and extensions, and all uploaded and downloaded as 0 byte, empty, files. Not at all sure what would be causing this, other than that it is without a doubt on Sonic's en d.

From Peter in Tennessee today: I thought maybe uploading to that dchad folder itself might work, but apparently not. Even though the log says it uploaded 327K, the file listing shows 0 bytes. Don't know why they gave you such a large file to upload. Maybe they're going to say you have a bad Internet connection, which may be true, but obviously is not the problem, since I'm experiencing the same thing and you can upload to the FTP folder. - dc

1-15-14 - update

From Peter in Tennessee

Test uploading the exact same file (test-1.htm, attached) to 2 locations on Sonic. Upload here works: /nfs/ftp/ftp/pub/users/dchad

Upload here does NOT work: /nfs/WWW_pages/dchad/cuke.com/pdf-2013/chfriends. When uploading here the initial response is that the file already exists, when it does NOT. Selecting Overwrite or Skip, the file does not get uploaded. See message box from FileZilla and FTP log below (especially green and red colored text). [Entering below under Peter attached 1-15]

I tried saving another simple HTML file from an online editor (shiftedit) and got: "Error saving file: Failed saving cuke.com/pdf-2013/chfriends/test-2.htm: 230 User dchad logged in."

Notice put at the top of cuke.com's What's New page.

1-14-14 - Update Note put on the Sonic.net Forums

Some files are coming up zero bytes when I upload with Filezilla or FTP-Fire onto Sonic.net's server. I see discussions of this on the web. 

It came and went and now it's back. Afraid to upload anything because if it happens it leaves the page blank. Mainly seems to happen with new pages but the first instance was with an existing page I updated. 

Sonic tech support could reproduce using my file but not theirs so he thought it was my computer but I have reproduced with file made on mate's Mac sending from her Mac. <http://cuke.com/worksheet.docx> It's blank as it has 0 bytes on the Sonic server. Peter in Tenn. had no problem at first then it happened to him with my file then with a PDF from his computer. It does not happen when I upload to another server. I took a working file from one folder and uploaded it onto another folder and it happened. It happened with a JPG for a few days then it didn't.

So it's not just between my PC and Sonic. 

It happens in any folder within any of my four sites on Sonic or in the folder they are all kept in.

It does not happen if I upload onto my storage area in Sonic - Public_ftp as opposed to Public_html for the site.

Just tried to upload a file with lots of info on this to cuke.com but it came up 0 bytes so I loaded it onto a site on another server. Here's the link: http://zmbm.net/obytes

Here's a file on that server that has been coming up 0bytes on Sonic: http://zmbm.net/chfriends

I don't know if this makes sense, but since it affects all my websites but not the storage area, maybe my account for the sites is hooked up to a certain server and maybe it could be changed to another server?

1-13-14 - Update on problem

I read the article

and have tried to change to passive but not the force UTF-8 yet.

Uploaded What's New page fine and then one file that was being zero, a jpeg, went through okay and so did the pages it went on but the new page I created for Claude Dalenberg's Cloud Hidden Friends etc still only loads as zero anywhere on Sonic html but not the ftp storage area.

I tried to upload it on zmbm.net which has another server and there was no problem.

One interesting and possibly telling thing that happens. When I upload with ftpfire whether i works or not I get the message - but only when uploading to Sonic - not the zmbm.net server.

550 /nfs/WWW_pages/dchad/cuke.com/bibliography/bibliog.html: No such file or directory

and then it usually says transfer complete in a bit.
 

So it definitely seems to be a problem between here and Sonic but not my computer's problem because it worked on Katrinka's so between the local server and Sonic's server. Right?

I'll try that Force UTF thing tomorrow. It's 10pm.
 

1-12-14 - Here are some notes on a technical problem I'm having loading files onto site.

I can upload that file onto my Sonic storage okay which is under public_ftp but not where I upload for websites which is public_html. Also I had the same problem on the 7th at another spot. Don't see how to get it from storage to site folder as they're not connected.

It's happened with updated and new files. But not all older files.

One thing that happens is it says there's already a file there no matter what folder I go to with that name and 0 bytes - do I want to replace it. I say Yes and it ends up zero.

Have tried rebooting of course. Will try again.

Tried to upload with Katrinka's Macbook Pro. Same problem.

Going to screw with the Mac some more.

Going to try uploading to another server which I can do when I find the password to zmbm.net run by Chris Modec Halverson.

Any ideas appreciated. Just want to isolate cause, source.

1-11-14 - Ananda Claude Dalenberg's Cloud-hidden Friends and Zen Freethinker Newsletters [that page not loading - same problem with 0bytes]  See 1-07 post below for history on this problem. Guess I have to wait till it goes away or I figure out what's causing this. It's not the FTP program cause I got another one and it's now happening on both which means that last time when the new FTP program didn't have that problem it was cause it had gone away. Maybe it's the Bali server but I could upload that file onto my Sonic storage which is under public_ftp but not where I upload for websites which is public_html. Also I had the same problem on the 7th at another spot. It's only that one new file that did that this time. Last time it was the Saunters page which wasn't new plus any new test page I made. I've got plenty to work on without uploading but I'd like to not have a break in it. We'll see.
